The collection

Made in some of the most remote and devastating landscapes in outback Australia, UNDERNEATH imagines a world at the end of days, where monsters roam and humanity has learnt to hide within the earth itself.

Bones, horns and the memory of brutal industry remain.

Violet put her own body on the line to bring this world to life. Bitten by meat ants, scratched and often bleeding, the performances become physical encounters with the landscape.

Artist bio

Violet Bond (born 1986) is an Australian multidisciplinary environmental artist based in the Northern Territory.

Working across performance, photography, scanography, ceramics, painting and installation, Bond explores mortality, memory, ecological fragility and the relationship between the human body and the natural world.

Raised in remote Arnhem Land, her practice is deeply informed by the landscapes of northern Australia. Incorporating wild earth, bones, charcoal, found materials and her own body, she creates works that examine the fragile boundaries between life, death and permanence.

Bond has exhibited internationally, including solo exhibitions at Uncommon Gallery in Seoul, Achetez de l'Art in Paris and the Northern Centre for Contemporary Art in Darwin. Her work moves between physical and digital spaces, often using photography and blockchain technology to preserve ephemeral encounters with the natural world.
